Thank you for a wonderful post! A thought I had at the end though was simply that the Church already has the perfect and simple answer to the problem of hedonism versus puritanism, and that is the sacraments. All of the sacraments are substantially connected to physically and emotionally pleasurable things (bathing, eating, annointing, sharing life-blood between spouses, etc.), while at the very same time being the supreme sources of sanctifying grace to souls. And while the Church very rightly demands discipline and reverence in the reception and administration of the same, it remains that in instituting these things, Christ definitively showed us that His friendship is to be attained essentially through the sacred use of natural pleasures and joys. It ties into the fact that the virtuous use of God's gifts is always objectively better than the total renunciation of them due to scandal. "IF your eye, or hand, etc., is a source of scandal TO YOU, then pluck it out, cut it off, etc.,"... but it is better to not be scandalized in the first place, and that is what the sacraments seek to teach and effect in us.
I'm sure as a very learned man you know this, but for a very long time, Election Day was the big celebration in the state of Connecticut for quite a long time because the Puritans despised celebrating much of anything.
The Puritans, in my view, gave us the "Protestant work ethic" and the lamentable "work you to death" culture America is known for. Why else do Holy Days of Obligation have to have evening Masses all the time?
No need to apologize! And I agree, there's a strong connection between the Puritans and the American tendency to idolize work while neglecting true leisure.
The Three Unholy Trinities Upholding anti-Catholic Modernism
Besides the typical reciting of the well-known trio: the world, the flesh, and the Devil, nominalism in cognition supports and reinforces the demonic power behind the three unholy trinities that do, therefore. so deliberately mock the Most Holy Trinity.
What, however, are these three truly evil trinities? The first is the truly powerful combination of the verily ancient Pelagian (denial of Original Sin, etc.), Gnostic (esotericism, elitist knowledge, etc.), and Immanentist (only terrene/intramundane salvation needed, etc.) heresies; the second consists of the ever very obnoxious Hegelian Dialectic of Thesis, Antithesis, and Synthesis (Progress glorified).
The third grouping covers the hubristic divinization of Man, Rationalism, and the nihilistic Kantian belief (Kant was a crypto-atheist) that "God" is merely, in its essence. an anthropomorphic projection on the part of humanity.
It is, in truth, the vainly secularist construction of the (invisible) new Tower of Babel as being then the supposed only viable alternative to the Roman Catholic Faith.
All these three horrible sets of nominalist beliefs do help to strongly support each other. For Pope St. Pius X had, many generations ago, both publicly and rightly condemned Modernism as, in his own insightful words, actually being "the synthesis of all heresies." The quite definitely unholy trinities, moreover, see as their demonic purpose in being the absolute refutation and rejection of the Most Holy Trinity; this is really, as could be fairly guessed, for the overtly nefarious sake of secularization, as is always greatly wanted by Satan and his allied legions of Hell. Trad Inc. is High on the "Drug" of "Hopeium" by Willingly Supporting Leo XIV
Yes, Virginia, there has developed a most bizarre and morally deranged cult of drug addicts, within the Traditional Latin Mass Community (TLMC), who started and now do remain high on the Hopeium that they keep eagerly pumping into their blood streams. They immorally seek to incorporate various and varying rationalizations for what the EVIL anti-Pope Leo XIV either does or does not do -- as long as they easily maintain their wanted supply and heavy use of Hopeium, that is. What is actually still happening?
These highly absurd cultic addicts wish to try to convince the whole TLMC that the realistic image of Leo XIV as a dedicated Modernist heretic is simply not true; they continually look for odd portents and sure signs, as if they were supposed ancient soothsayers, trying to divine many mysteries related to what might or might not be going on in the Church, under this, now, supposed Holy Father, Supreme Pontiff.
Among the gurus leading this sad cult of addicts is, one can rightly guess, Michael Matt who explains aways matters with a quite blithely confident ease of someone possessing esoteric knowledge, concerning Leo XIV and what he represents. His broadcasts with their optimism show that his addiction to this intoxicating Hopeium is real enough.
But, the verily best remedy for this very terrible addiction is to go "cold turkey" by renouncing their disgusting use of Hopeium as a grave moral and spiritual danger to the proper understanding and affirmation of Roman Catholicism, NOT today's demonic Synodalism as promoted by this assumed Vicar of Christ and his allied henchmen.
Get off that evil drug and, instead, fearlessly and joyously, shout out on behalf of the TLMC and against this Leo XIV:

"Wherever the Catholic sun doth shine,
There's always laughter and good red wine;
At least, I've always found it so;
Benedicamus Domino!"

I apologize for the brief rant.

This was beautifully written. Thank you!
You're welcome!
